Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

(CHC30113) Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is an entry qualification for someone who wants to work in the Early Childhood industry.
This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

In order to attain the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, students are required to satisfactorily complete 18 units of competency, consisting of 15 core units and 3 elective units of competency.

To be eligible to enrol in Certificate 3 Guarantee Program prospective participants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be aged 15 years or older;
- Be no longer at school (with the exception of school students in Years 10, 11 and 12 undertaking a VET in School (VETiS) program — see the VETiS fact sheet for more information);
- Permanently reside in Queensland;
- Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen; and
- Not hold, and not be enrolled in, a certificate III or higher-level qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training.
In addition to the standard eligibility requirements, specific restrictions and/or exemptions may apply to participation in certain subsidised qualifications. Any additional eligibility requirements will be based on industry advice or requirements under the relevant national training package and will be detailed in the Priority Skills List.
RTO Admission requirements
ETI has the following admission requirements:
- Applicants must be 18 years or more of age.
- No minimum education standard is set as a prerequisite to entry to this course. However, general command of spoken and written English, as well as the ability to write a simple report is required. This course requires the demonstration of skills in a regulated education and care service as well as in class, so student must have the physical capacity to work. Will be required to participate in a minimum of 120 hours of work placement
- Pass a National Police Clearance or hold a blue card before doing practical work placement.
- Applicants are required to have successfully completed a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and Pre-Training Review before training commencement. ACSF level 3 is required in reading, writing, learning, oral communication, and numeracy.
Students who complete the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care may work in a range of education and care settings, or with school aged children in outside school hours care and vacation programs in roles such as:
Childhood Educator Assistant
As a childcare Educator assistant you will be assisting in teaching kindergarten children in the year before their full-time of schooling. Your patience is expected to nurture a sense of individuality, self-expression and interest while working with the children. Your main responsibility is to provide an early education for children and help them prepare for school. Working as an assistant childhood educator is important not just within the household but also it contributes to the development and wellbeing of the society. Nurturing the developing minds of young ones is self-fulfilling and achieving.
Outside School Hours Aide
Gives you a broader opportunity in childcare as a registered carer with the assistance provided by local government for school children outside school hours as a priority. The OSHC assistance schedule is before school 7am – 9am and after school 3pm-6pm. You will be doing activities that are developmentally appropriate for the children’s age and are in line structured activities. Your responsibility is to support in implementing the weekly program planning, promote healthy eating plans, overseeing the safety of all children attending care and respond to children and young people at risk.
Provides assistance in early childhood pre-primary school teachers in implementing approved learning framework whilst supporting the children’s wellbeing, learning and development in preschool or kindergarten.
Students may also like to continue their formal training by undertaking the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
Students are required to attend classroom sessions 15 hoursper week for the duration of the Qualification, where training and assessment will be conducted.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Involves a formal recognition of the skills and knowledge student have already achieved through previous studies, work and life experiences. Assessment of RPL takes into account:
- Work-related training courses
- On-the-job skills and work experience
- Volunteer and community work
- A combination of all of the above

Credit transfer recognises previous formal learning and uses an assessment of a previous course or subject that was achieved by the student to determine whether it can be credited to the new course you wish to enrol.
